ELKHART — Willard Ray Overholser, 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 7:15 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at Hubbard Hill Estates, Elkhart.
Formerly of Goshen and Sebring, Fla., he was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Harrison Township, Elkhart County, to Alonzo and Elizabeth (Tyson) Overholser. He married Leora Elizabeth (Ogle) Overholser on Aug. 6, 1949.
Surviving are his wife, Leora; son Dennis (Cynthia) Overholser of Bristol; daughter Diana (Richard) Miller of Goshen; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were four brothers, Paul, Claude, Marion and Lowell Overholser; and three sisters, Lois Hooley, Fern Overholser and Mary Alice Drudge.
Willard was a 1943 graduate and salutatorian of Wakarusa High School, graduate of Ivy Tech as a computer programmer and Harrison Township PTO president for more than five years. He was a hobby farmer and an avid gardener and also liked watching sports. He was famous for his home-grown popcorn with his family. He was a member of Yellow Creek Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years and also served as a deacon. He attended Sebring Church of the Brethren in Sebring and enjoyed wintering there.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren, 65575 C.R. 11, Goshen. Pastor Mark Bendes will officiate and burial will be in Yellow Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Heifer Project International or Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren.
