June 1, 1924 - March 23, 2013

ELKHART — Francis R. “Frank” Taylor, 88, of Elkhart, died at 3:20 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Eastlake Terrace.

Frank was born June 1, 1924, in Escanaba, Mich., to Albert and Anna (Hurkman) Taylor.

He married Evelyn Cart on Oct. 11, 1947. She died in July 1981.

He married Nancy L. Kiefer on Feb. 6, 1982.

She survives along with his sons, Jay (Cathy Jones) Taylor and Michael (Tami) Kiefer, both of Elkhart; daughter Vickie (Steve) Gilmore of Grand Junction, Colo.; brother Albert Taylor of Sun City Center, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons Gerald “Jerry” Taylor and Steven Kiefer; brothers Raymond, Gilbert, Larry and Bert Taylor; and sisters Margaret Tupper and Agnes Leadman.

Frank started his career in sales with F.M. Woolworth and for 22 years owned and operated The Stationers, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; life member of S.C.O.R.E.; former volunteer for Riverview Adult Day Care Center and LoveWay; a tutor at Hawthorne School; past president of Evergreen Homeowners Association; and a former member of Elkhart Noon Kiwanis, Elkhart Moose and Knights of Columbus.

Frank is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in the South Pacific during World War II.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Services will be at noon Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the funeral home. Pastor Mark Dicken will officiate. Private entombment will be at Chapel of Faith, Rice Cemetery.
