ELKHART — James G. Billmeyer, 89, of Elkhart, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, in his residence.

James was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., to Edward G. and Ruth N. (Lindeman) Billmeyer. He married Geraldine Marcoux in 1950. After their parting he married Angela I. Havens in 1969. She died March 5, 1997. He married Anna J. Boutwell-Colagrassi in 2002. She died Jan. 8, 2012.

He is survived by a son, Daniel J. Billmeyer of Elkhart; daughter Gale Clark of South Bend; brothers Thomas F. Billmeyer of Wisconsin Rapids, John E. Billmeyer of San Jose, Calif., and Robert L. Billmeyer of Denver; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Billmeyer.

James served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning a Bronze Star.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, he was a mechanical engineer at Bendix ACSG, South Bend and Elkhart, for 30 years, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of St Vincent’s Catholic Church, Elks Lodge 425 and the Society of Automotive Engineers.

James was a musician. He played with various groups, most recently the New Horizons Band. He loved anything to do with music and musicians.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial with military rites will follow in St. Vincent’s Cemetery.
