ELKHART — Alma C. Hurley, 92, of Elkhart, passed away at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 29, 1920, in Robson, W.Va., to George and Mary (Rollins) Lilly.
On May 11, 1935, in Deep Water, W.Va., she married Jesse E. Hurley. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1974, in Elkhart.
Surviving are two sons, Jesse L. (Becky) Hurley of Elkhart and George S. (Maxine) Hurley of Pendleton; three daughters, Gracie L. Goins of Elkhart, Mary E. (Roland) Gray of Atlanta and Ann M. (William) Zimmerman of Bristol. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and 36 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, William E. Hurley; two grandsons, Casey E. Hurley, Edward G. Goins Sr.; two granddaughters, Peggy Lynn Ireland and Lisa Cornish; one great-granddaughter, Brandy Jo Goins; one great-great-grandchild; a son-in-law the Rev. Estel G. Goins; three brothers; and four sisters.
“Grandma Hurley” moved from Robson to Elkhart in 1962. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, writing poems and working in her yard and garden when she was able. She became an ordained minister in 1952 and was a faithful member of Living Word Ministry.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Living Word Ministry, 57560 Hawthorne St., Elkhart. Pastor Gracie L. Goins (her daughter) will preside along with Pastor Rick Pirtle and burial will follow in Rice Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Feed the Children or the Center for Hospice Care both of Elkhart.
