ELKHART — Lawrence R. “Larry” Briggs, 60, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Jan. 11, 1953, in Chicago to the late Jack Louis and Mary Margaret (Early) Briggs.
On Feb. 21, 2004, in Jamaica he married Sandra K. (Dexter) Smale.
She survives along with two daughters, Eve Meredith Briggs and Andrea Christine Briggs, both of Elkhart; and two stepchildren, Steven Scott (Rhonda) Smale of Mishawaka and Adam Lee Smale of South Bend. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three sisters, Linda K. Griffin of Carmel, Jackie M. Briggs of Portland, Ore., and Patty A. (Ralph) McIntire of Goshen.
Larry graduated from Elkhart Central High School in 1971. He graduated from Ball State University in 1975 with a degree in radio and television communications. Then, in 1993, he received a master’s degree in business science from the University of Notre Dame.
He enjoyed photography, traveling and listening to music.
Larry was employed for the past 26 years at the University of Notre Dame as manager in food services.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the funeral home. Father Bill Sullivan of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church will preside. Cremation will follow at Elkhart Cremation Services.
Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
