CONSTANTINE, Mich. — Joe Whetstone, 81, of Constantine, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Three Rivers Health Hospital.

He was born in Elkhart, Ind., on Dec. 16, 1931, to John and Susie (Hostetler) Whetstone.

Joe proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955.

On Nov. 23, 1957, he married Carol Larrance.

Joe was a manager at Syndicate Systems in Middlebury, where he worked for 46 years, retiring in 1998. He also owned the Dam Site Bait Shop in Constantine since 1980.

Joe was a member of Arthur E. Stears American Legion Post 223 of Constantine, VFW of Marcellus and the 40 & 8.

He enjoyed mushroom hunting, golfing, travel and loved to get in the car and go.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Whetstone; son Joe Whetstone Jr. daughter Denise (Steve) Jennings and son Ron (Kris) Whetstone, all of Constantine; grandchildren Matt Whetstone, Laura (Joe) Benka, Kelsey Jennings, Dustin Jennings, Eric Stears and Seth Stears; and sister Millie Whetstone, brothers David Whetstone and John Henry Jr. (Goldie) Whetstone, all of Middlebury, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.

Relatives and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine. Religious services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Trinity Missionary Church in Constantine.

Interment will follow in Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 223 Scholarship Fund. Messages may be left for the family at
