WEST BRANCH, Mich. — Helen Louise Weesner passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Bortz Health Care of West Branch, where she has resided for the past seven years.

She was born to the late Chester and Louise (Woodward) Hemminger on Aug. 18, 1917, in Elkhart, Ind. She graduated from Elkhart High School in June of 1935 and served as Miss Elkhart in the same year. She travelled to Chicago that year to represent Elkhart in the Miss Indiana pageant.

On Nov. 29, 1936, she married her sweetheart, Berneil Bradford Weesner. They spent 68 years together and produced three children.

The two places that won her heart were Chicago and Birch Lake in Vandalia. She and Bernie moved to Chicago in 1951 and remained there until Bernie retired in 1965. She had many jobs in the city and did much volunteerism in Oak Park. They always had their home on Birch Lake and Helen spent every summer there until they moved there permanently upon retirement.

She will be most remembered for her kind heart and positive attitude about life. She will be missed by many.

Helen is survived by Lance Neil (Barbara) Weesner of Elmhurst, Ill., Lynn Bradford (Ann) Weesner of San Antonio and Leslie Weesner (Douglas) Pattullo of West Branch; her grandchildren, Lindsay Weesner, Bradford Pattullo, Jamie Pattullo Ward, Lynn (Brad) Weesner Jr., Jennifer Weesner Young, Erika Weesner, Neil Weesner and Samantha Weesner; and 11 great-grandchildren.
