SYRACUSE — DeVon Umbenhour, 94, of Syracuse, formerly of Miami, died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse.

He was born March 21, 1918, in Elkhart County to Otis Dale Umbenhour and Gertrude (Werntz) Umbenhour Binkley.

Surviving are nieces and nephews Carol (Dana) Kauffman and Barbara (Richard) Longcor, both of Millersburg, Kenneth (Sharon) Hapner of Bozeman, Mont., and Dennis (Cherri) Hapner of Syracuse; great-nieces and great-nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-great-nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Mildred Hapner.

DeVon was a graduate of New Paris High School and South Bend Business College and worked as a bookkeeper.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Baintertown Cemetery with the Rev. John Randolph officiating.
