ELKHART — Mary Grace Battista, 91, of Hubbard Hill Estates, died at 6:40 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at her residence.
Mary was born into a close-knit Italian family Oct. 27, 1921, in Elkhart to Sam and Maggie (Paduano) Battista.
She was a 1940 graduate of Elkhart High School and worked as a secretary in the advertising department at H & A Selmer Co. Mary was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. She was an avid gardener and reader who loved learning new things.
Mary is survived by a sister, Rose Battista; five nieces, Judith Helak Jank, Lauren Helak Toepp, Maryann Helak, Gina Battista and Angela Battista; and four nephews, David, Thomas, John and Michael Helak.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lucille Helak and Antoinette Piedmont; two brothers, Dominic Battista and Sam Battista Jr.; and a niece, Katherine Helak Holden.
Friends may call one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. service Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Hubbard Hill Estates. Burial will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery. Father Glenn Kohrman will officiate.
Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
