WAKARUSA — Arlene F. Birky, 78, of Wakarusa, died at 10:35 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Millers Merry Manor, Wakarusa.

She was born Dec. 13, 1933, to the late Willis and Effie (Loucks) Hartman in Elkhart County. She married Marston Birky on May 28, 1960.

Arlene is survived by her husband; children Dr. Duane Birky of Fort Smith, Ariz., Pamela (Phil) Klotz of Wakarusa and Patricia Birky of Nappanee; and grandchildren Blake Klotz, Megan Klotz and Kassie Rhoades.

Arlene was a homemaker. She was a 1951 graduate of Wakarusa High School. She attended Holdeman Mennonite Church in Wakarusa. She served in Mennonite voluntary service in Colorado and was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher for many years. She also provided child care and care for the elderly.

Arlene was known for many years for making Halloween cookies for trick-or-treaters. She loved traveling, especially in the mountains.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa, and for one hour prior to the 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, funeral service at Holdeman Mennonite Church, Wakarusa. Pastors Bj Leichty, Randy Detweiler and Vernard Guengerich, all of Holdeman Mennonite Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Olive (West) Cemetery.
