ELKHART — Hazel R. Silc, 91, of Elkhart and formerly of Shorewood, Ill., passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, to be with her Lord at the home of her son and daughter-in-law.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Chris Silc of Elkhart; two grandsons, Aaron and Ryan Silc, both of Chicago; two brothers-in-law, Edward (Lil) Silc of Pittsboro, N.C. and Rudy Silc of Atlantis, Fla.; sister Lucille Surdey of Joliet, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews in Illinois and the Midwest.
On Aug. 28, 1942, she married Harry F. Silc. He preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 2009.
She was born in Will County, Ill., on May 28, 1921, to John and Emma (Bohnsack) Janssen.
Hazel lived in Joliet all her life until April 2009 when she and Harry moved to Elkhart.
Prior to moving to Elkhart, she was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Joliet for over 50 years.
Hazel was a homemaker, licensed beautician and a wonderful cook.
She always enjoyed gardening and canning.
She became an accomplished baker, making cakes and pastries for family and friends for many years. Later in years she particularly enjoyed baking for special events for her grandsons. On any given day you could find Hazel in her kitchen cooking or baking something for the ones she so dearly loved.
The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the 1 p.m. CDT Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, funeral service at Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, Joliet, IL 60435. Pastor Herbert Grieves will officiate.
Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
