GOSHEN — Maxine Kauffman, 87, peacefully passed away to her heavenly home Thursday morning, Oct. 11, 2012, at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born in Goshen on March 9, 1925, to Alvin and Alma (Showalter) Kauffman.
She is survived by a brother, Dana (Carol) Kauffman of Millersburg; a sister, Gladys (James) Hershberger of Goshen; and nine nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Jennie (Ralph) Pletcher and Loa Miller.
She attended Clinton Community School, Millersburg High School, Goshen College and three summers at Ball State University.
Her teaching included 36 years at Millersburg Elementary, a year with Navajo Indians in New Mexico and Arizona and three summers at Laurelville Mennonite Camp.
The enjoyment of volunteer service led her to Meals on Wheels, Oaklawn Auxiliary, IN-MI Mennonite Conference, Mennonite Mission Network and Greencroft Caring Friends.
Nature, quilting, music and mission outreach were among her interests.
Maxine was a life-long member of Clinton Brick Mennonite Church.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, in Clinton Brick Cemetery, followed by a 10:30 a.m. memorial service at Clinton Brick Mennonite Church. The Rev. Dave Hathaway will officiate.
