ELKHART — Thelma Jean Corpe, 68, of Elkhart, passed away at 6:27 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at the Elkhart Hospice House.
She was born Oct. 6, 1943, to James Russell and Elsie Marie (Wood) Freeze in McMinnville, Tenn. On May 4, 1985, she married Robert L. Corpe in Elkhart.
He survives along with five sons and five daughters, Donnie (Karen) Shaffer of Shipshewana, Sherry Hite of Elkhart, Lori (Joe) Fashbaugh of White Pigeon, Mich., Christine (Jose) Salazar of Elkhart and Amanda (Mike) Richardson, Steven Sodeman, Sonya Whiteman, Eric (Ann) Corpe, Andrew Corpe and Brian (Debbie) Corpe, all of Elkhart; 25 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gary Freeze of Elkhart.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Steven “Nez” Freeze.
Thelma enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, watching the birds and squirrels and her flower garden. She loved nature and her dog, Molly. Thelma retired from Weston Plaza as a housekeeper.
Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. with a celebration of life service to be at 6 p.m. today, Oct. 4, 2012, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Pastor Carl Henry of Northside Baptist Church will be presiding. Cremation will take place.
Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
