WAKARUSA — Elizabeth J. “Betty” Lechlitner, 86, of Washington Street, Wakarusa, formerly of C.R. 1 and C.R. 38, died at 3 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Miller’s Merry Manor.
She was born Dec. 31, 1925, in Nappanee to Kenneth and Ruth (Mast) Tobias. She married Robert L. Lechlitner on March 11, 1945, in Nappanee, and he died June 1, 1984.
Surviving are sons Richard (Connie) Lechlitner of Wakarusa, Thomas (Sharon) Lechlitner of Goshen and Philip (Mindy) Lechlitner of Wakarusa; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her husband, parents, brother Lamar Tobias and sister Eloise Stump.
She was a farm wife and homemaker and also worked at the Dime Store and Freed’s Shoe Store. She was a member of Wakarusa United Methodist Church, belonged to the Search Light Club and Home Ec Club, was a 1943 graduate of Nappanee High School. She enjoyed crafts, singing in the church choir and was an avid NorthWood sports fan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2012, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, Wakarusa. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Wakarusa United Methodist Church, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. The Rev. Ed Geleske will officiate, and burial will be in Olive (West) Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Wakarusa United Methodist Church.
