GOSHEN — Solveig Olga Overvoll, 80, of Elkhart went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 4:35 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2011.
She was born Jan. 10, 1931, in Arendal, Norway, to Oscar Peder Henriksen and Jenny Charlotte (Moberg) Henriksen. She married Bjarne Olav Overvoll on Jan. 29, 1949, in Arendal.
Solveig is survived by her two daughters, Frida Salvigsen of New Jersey and Esther (Bill) Flora of Goshen; a son, Daniel (Cynthia) Overvoll of Portage; eight grandchildren, Stephen, Stanley, Scott and Stuart Salvigsen, Bonnie and Grant Flora and Rachel and Sarah Overvoll; as well as 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bjarne, in 2009; her son, Brynjulf Overvoll in 1959; two brothers Birger and Henri Henriksen; and a sister, Margith Schirmer.
Solveig immigrated to Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1958. She and her husband then relocated to Elkhart County in 1989. Solveig was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed her family, flower gardening and needle arts. She took great delight in serving others and always had a cup of coffee ready for friends who stopped by. She attended McCoy Memorial Baptist Church in Elkhart.
There will be a celebration of life service 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at McCoy Memorial Baptist Church with visitation starting at 1:30 p.m. and going until the service time.
