The first round of sweeping thunderstorms Monday, June 30, sputtered out west of South Bend, but a second round is gaining steam near Chicago.
According to National Weather Service Tweets, another storm is supposed to move in after midnight.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the South Bend-Elkhart area until 10:30 p.m., but the storm broke up before it reached Elkhart County.
The Weather Channel dubbed the storm “a deadly derecho” as it tore through the Midwest Monday. A Fairfax, Iowa, man died when a building collapsed during the derecho around 2:42 p.m. CST.
