Heavy rain falling Tuesday morning could lead to flooding in low-lying areas near small streams.

The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for Elkhart County and other counties in northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan Tuesday morning, June 24.

The advisory notes that heavy rain is falling in the area at a rate of more than an inch per hour. Flooding is possible in fields, low spots and roadway drains.

Drivers who see water flooding a roadway should find an alternate route to their destination, NWS said, as the water may be too high for vehicles to safely pass.

NWS expects the heavy rain to continue until 9 a.m. The advisory is set to expire at 10:45 a.m.

Today’s forecast from the NWS includes intermittent rain throughout the day, including isolated showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m.
