Severe thunderstorm warning for Elkhart County lifted

The National Weather Service Northern Indiana has issued a severe thunderstorm watch, effective until 9 p.m.

Update: The severe thunderstorm warning has been lifted for Elkhart County. There is still a warning in effect for central and southern Kosciusko County. A watch remains in effect for Elkhart and St. Joseph counties in Indiana and Cass and St. Joseph counties in Michigan until 9 p.m.


Around 2 p.m., the National Weather Service of Northern Indiana issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 3 p.m. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 p.m.

Around 2:30 p.m., severe thunderstorms were along a line extending from Marcellus to Wakarusa to Bremen, moving east at 35 mph.

Wind gusts of 60 mph and hail were reported by National Weather Service Northern Indiana.

The storm is expected to hit Warsaw and Winona Lake around 3 p.m.

National Weather Service Northern Indiana posted on Twitter earlier Wednesday, June 18, about concern for severe weather.

Around 12:30 p.m., NWS sent a tweet saying “...Storms will increase in intensity in the next hour or two with damaging winds possible.”

A picture accompanying the tweet said hail also may be a concern. A line of thunderstorms extended from northern Illinois to over Lake Michigan.
