NOTRE DAME — Yet another former Notre Dame player has transferred to Miami of Ohio for the remainder of his college eligibility.
Senior cornerback Lo Wood announced in December that he was leaving Notre Dame with initial plans to enroll in Georgia Tech or Central Florida. On Thursday, Jan. 16, Wood’s father announced that his son plans to enroll at Miami of Ohio by the end of January, according to Irish Illustrated.
Wood will spend his fifth year of eligibility with some familiar faces — namely quarterback Andrew Hendrix, tight end Alex Welch and new head coach Chuck Martin.
A former three-star recruit out of Apopka, Fla., Wood’s career was sidelined after a ruptured Achilles tendon in training camp ended his junior season. Wood returned healthy for his senior season but had a downsized role behind starter KeiVarae Russell and rising freshmen Cole Luke and Devin Butler.
Wood finishes his tenure at Notre Dame with 19 tackles and one interception.
Wood’s father, Lo Wood Sr., told Irish Illustrated that Martin, Notre Dame’s former offensive coordinator, had started recruiting Wood “as soon as he got the job” in December.
“I think he landed back at the right place,” Wood Sr. said. “That’s where he’s meant to be. He’s happy. He likes Martin and wishes that he could have coached him all four years at Notre Dame.
“You get a chance to do something different. Going to coach Martin, going somewhere where they want him, where they need him, where they recruited him, that’s the best position you could have as a football player.”
