Diaco taking job at UConn

NOTRE DAME — Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco is leaving the Irish to become the next head coach at Connecticut, according to on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

Diaco will replace Paul Pasqualoni, who was fired mid-season. UConn finished 3-9.

Diaco came to Notre Dame with head coach Brian Kelly as a defensive coordinator and was promoted to assistant coach before the 2012 season. Diaco won the 2012 Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach and helped ND to the national championship game in January.

According to the CBSSports report, Diaco’s contract with UConn will include $1.5 million per year for five years. Former Irish offensive coordinator Chuck Martin left Notre Dame for a head coaching gig at Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 3.
