MIDDLEBURY — Mikaela Zook, a Northridge High School senior, has signed to continue her academic and soccer careers at Hesston (Kan.) College.

Zook was a key defender for coach Bill Redinger's Raiders, which won four straight Northern Lakes Conference titles and a 2013 sectional championship. Northridge did not allow a goal in NLC play in 2012 or 2013.

"Mikaela is one of the most solid defenders I have ever coached," Redinger said. "She uses her athleticism to be a great individual and team defender. She was also a leader by example with her work ethic and attitude. She will be missed."

A three-year letter-winner, Zook was all-NLC, all-district and third team all-state in 2013. She was also a standout in basketball in 2013-14.

"We are happy to have a player the caliber of Mikaela join the Larks program," said Hesston head coach Bryan Kehr, the former Bethany Christian High School girls soccer coach and athletic director. "We are looking to build on the program's continued improvement and believe Mikaela can help us take another step forward to a higher level of play."

Zook plans to study exercise science at Hesston, a two-year junior college. Her mother, Teresa, is a former basketball player for the Larks.

Zook's classmate, Jaymee Bowers, has also signed to play soccer at Hesston.
