GOSHEN — Only one person remains hospitalized after a large baseball cage fell in the Goshen College Recreation-Fitness Center.
That’s according to an update sent around 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, from Brian A. Yoder Schlabach, campus news bureau coordinator.
Three people were initially hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries Monday evening, June 9, after the cage, which was suspended in the gymnasium, fell during a volleyball game at the recreation center.
A cable holding the cage to the ceiling apparently snapped, causing one side to fall and hit people sitting in the stands watching the game.
Rick Kauffman, battalion chief with the Goshen Fire Department, estimated that the cage was about 15 feet wide and 40 feet long.
Jodi Beyeler, spokesperson for Goshen College, called the incident a “freak accident.”
