MIAMI — Joe Schoen, an Elkhart native and Memorial High graduate, has been promoted to director of player personnel for the Miami Dolphins.
''Joe is a talented evaluator with knowledge and experience in various roles. His diverse skill set and leadership makes him a great fit for his new role going forward,'' said new Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey. Hickey took over for Jeff Ireland in January.
''Over the past few months I have worked closely with Joe and have seen first-hand the value he brings to the organization. We will continue to make every effort to improve all aspects of the Miami Dolphins, and with the recent addition of Eric Stokes and the promotion of Joe Schoen we feel that we are continuing on the path of our goal to return championship football to the Miami Dolphins.''
Schoen joined the Dolphins in 2008 as part of the team’s scouting staff. In 2013, he was named assistant director of college scouting. From 2000-07, he was scouting assistant with the Carolina Panthers.
A 1995 graduate of Elkhart Memorial, Schoen also was a three-year letterwinner at DePauw as a wide receiver. He was a quarterback for the Crimson Chargers and as a freshman in college.
Schoen and his wife, Marie, have two children — daughter Sydney Burke and son Carson William.
