Back 2 School Elkhart, Goshen giving out free school supplies

With the school year starting over the next two weeks, here’s how you can get your child ready if you’re on a budget.

The 2014-15 school year is starting soon in Elkhart County, and two local events are helping families by providing free school supplies, backpacks, and more.

When does school start?

Baugo — Aug. 14
Concord — Aug .13
Elkhart — Aug. 15
Fairfield — Aug. 14
Goshen — Aug. 7
Middlebury — Aug. 13
Wa-Nee — Aug. 14

Back-2-School Goshen will be from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 and Back 2 School Elkhart’s school supply giveaway happens starting at 9 a.m. Aug. 9. 

Back 2 School Elkhart also does a health fair in partnership with the Minority Health Coalition, but the health fair is the weekend before the school supply giveaway. 


Back 2 School Elkhart will have backpacks, school supplies and shoes available for school-age children starting at 9 a.m. Aug. 9 until supplies run out at Concord Mall’s Mishawaka Road entrance. 

The Minority Health Coalition’s health fair will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Tolson Park Center, 1300 Benham Ave.

Back-2-School Goshen is organized by Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, 61115 S.R. 15 N. in Goshen. 

Children in kindergarten through fifth grade can pick up backpacks with school supplies and shoes, get haircuts and breakfast, and play in bounce houses from 8 to 11 a.m., Saturday. 

The church is also offering car fluid checks and car washes, also free. 

Children participating should be accompanied by an adult.
