Penn student 'very deserving' of National Merit scholarship, principal says
A Penn High School student was chosen for the National Merit Indiana University Bloomington scholarship.
Officials at IU Bloomington selected Aatif Basher of Granger from among the finalists in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend the school, according to a press release.
These college and university awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the school financing the scholarship.
Penn High School principal Steve Hope said Basher is “very deserving” of the scholarship, and those at the school are proud of his accomplishments.
Other National Merit winners from the area in 2014 so far were Mallory Hill of Elkhart Central, Adam Darr of NorthWood, and four more Penn students: Jessica Nelson, Alberte Eskildsen, Emily Song and Seungyup Sun.
