State Rep. Tim Wesco is encouraging residents to vote for Elkhart schools' referendum on May 6.
He said in a statement that Elkhart schools is asking for a reasonable amount of money through additional taxes.
"The additional tax revenues will be used for specified, tangible purposes: reducing excessive walk zones, completing critical building repairs and greatly enhancing safety and security," Wesco said.
He also believes that the tax rate impact of 0.186 percent is not too much.
A referendum is a chance for the public to directly support the schools, he said, and people should support this request for funds.
