Boys and Girls Club supports Concord referendum
The Boys and Girls Club of Elkhart County is supporting Concord schools' referendum, and it is encouraging others to do so as well.
"The importance of this issue cannot be overstated," the group said in a release. "Our children need — and deserve — properly maintained and staffed school facilities."
Residents in the Concord schools district will be voting for or against an additional tax levy of up to $0.405 for every $100 of assessed property value on May 6. The school corporation will use the money to bolster funds suffering from state property tax caps.
"It’s important to realize that over just these past 3 years, Concord Community Schools has lost $10 million in operating revenues, with another $4.2 million loss projected for 2014," the statement from the Boys and Girls Club said.
Club officials will be encouraging others to vote "yes" for the school referendum over the next few weeks.
