    Elkhart County schools hosting kindergarten round-ups

    Several Elkhart County schools are gathering information about incoming kindergarten students. What should you know for your little one?

    Got a 4- or 5-year-old? You might need to check out this guide on how to get them signed up for kindergarten in the fall. 

    Several area schools are hosting round-ups for new kindergarten students and their parents:

    Baugo Community Schools

    When: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. April 22 and May 1

    Where: Jimtown Elementary School, 58901 C.R. 3 South, Elkhart

    Details: Child must be 5 years old before Aug. 1, 2014. Parents who bring in their child’s updated immunization records will be eligible to win a gift card from a local restaurant.

    What to bring: Your child for a brief screening, the child’s official birth certificate, proof of residency dated no more than one month prior (signed current lease, deed, most recent utility bill, cell phone bill, insurance bill), custodial parent’s driver’s license, updated immunization records and physical (students will not be permitted to attend school after the first day without providing a written statement of completed immunizations or without complying with rules for exemption.

    Middlebury Community Schools

    For all Middlebury Community Schools: Parents should bring birth certificates, immunization records and proof of residency to the school where they are enrolling their child.

    Jefferson Elementary

    When: 3 to 4 p.m., 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 29

    Where: Jefferson Elementary School, 18565 C.R. 20, Goshen

    Details: Parents should contact the school to select one of the sessions.

    When: 3 to 7:30 p.m. April 22

    Where: Middlebury Elementary School, 432 S. Main Street, Middlebury

    Orchard View Elementary School

    When: 4 to 5 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 22

    Where: Orchard View Elementary School, 56647 Northridge Drive, Middlebury

    When: 3 to 6 p.m. April 23

    Elkhart Community Schools

    When: 6:30 p.m. April 24

    Where: All Elkhart Community Schools elementary buildings

    What to bring: Childs birth certificate and immunization records.

    Details: Children can enroll in kindergarten at ECS if they will be 5 years old on or before August 1, 2014. Parents of children who will turn five during August can seek early enrollment by completing an application form by Aug. 11. This form is available at every elementary school.

    Wa-Nee Community Schools

    When: 1 to 6 p.m. April 22

    Where: Nappanee, Wakarusa and Woodview elementaries

    What to bring: Your child who will be in kindergarten.

    Also, bring at least one proof of residence in Wa-Nee schools district. Examples include valid Indiana driver's license with current address; property tax bill; valid Indiana photo ID card; copy of lease or record of most recent rent payment; copy of deed or record of most recent mortgage payment; gas, electric or phone bill; a payroll stub; or welfare/government assistance check.

    Also bring child's birth certificate and immunization records.

    Details: Children can enroll in kindergarten at Wa-Nee Community Schools if they will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1.
