HARRISONBURG, Va. — Several local students were named to the dean’s list for the 2013 fall semester at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg. To be named to the dean’s list, students must achieve a minimum 3.75 GPA and be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours.
Elkhart, Ind.: Alena Yoder, daughter of Kevin and Sharon Yoder, a sophomore majoring in history.
Goshen, Ind.: Benjamin Bontreger, son of Wes and Cheryl Bontreger, a junior majoring in psychology; Benjamin Mast, son of John and Lois Mast, a junior majoring in English; Austin Mumaw, son of Jeff and Veva Mumaw, a sophomore majoring in liberal arts; Emily Shenk, daughter of Dale and Karen Shenk, a junior majoring in liberal arts; and Marla zumFelde, daughter of Roger and Evelyn zumFelde, a junior majoring in biology.
New Paris, Ind.: Magdalena Lehman, daughter of Tim and Jan Lehman, a junior majoring in history; and Katharine Steury, daughter of Douglas and LuAnn Steury, a senior majoring in liberal arts.
GOSHEN — Alma Carrillo Flores of Elkhart, a freshman nursing major, presented her speech "Ciudad Juarez female laborers: victims of femicides," at the 2014 C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest Feb. 18 at Goshen College.
Flores was one of five Goshen College students to present speeches during the evening. Speakers delivered 8- to 10-minute presentations on a topic of their choosing that related to peace, and were judged on originality, integration of the topic and a peace position, and general standards of delivery.
RIPON, Wis. — Shannon Richards of Elkhart, Ind., a first year student at Ripon College, recently competed in the Wisconsin Collegiate Forensics Association State Tournament hosted at the college. Seven colleges competed in the tournament.
Richards is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan A. Richards of Elkhart.
