Who: Elkhart school board
When: The board met Tuesday evening, Feb. 25.
The board gave the Yes4Elkhart group permission to solicit support for Elkhart's referendum in school buildings. Any group that forms in opposition to the referendum would get the same privileges, according to Superintendent Rob Haworth.
Kevin Deary, president of the Boys and Girls Club of Elkhart, announced that the Boys and Girls Club board supports the school referendum. The Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce board made a similar announcement last week.
Hayley Boling of the Elkhart Education Foundation shared the group's goals, which include getting kids more engaged in school through extracurricular activities. The relatively new foundation started in 2013 and is made up of local volunteers who are interested in education, she said.
