Pastor Mike Fisher of Grace Bible Church in Elkhart unleashed a hailstorm of responses last week for one of his comments on same-sex marriage. Now he's responding, warning "we will cease to be a moral society" if gay marriage is allowed.
This is what the conservative pastor said, in part, in a blog I did last week: “When gays get equal rights, like evolution, they will not stop until they have eliminated all heterosexuality.”
- Look here for the original blog post, offering a range of views from local clergy on House Joint Resolution 6, the same-sex marriage amendment proposal to ban same-sex marriage in Indiana.
The Elkhart Truth Facebook page included a post on my blog and, in response, many had harsh words for Fisherhere to see the 60-plus FB comments). "That has to be the most ignorant statement I have ever heard. Way to make all Christians look bad," said one FB poster.
Now, in response to the Facebook outcry, Fisher penned a letter to the editor, which appeared in today's print edition of the Elkhart Truth (look here). In the letter, Fisher says putting HJR 6 to the public will allow the people of Indiana to define what is moral and immoral here.
Fisher also offers some additional strong comments against gay marriage. His letter reads, in part:"When we allow unmarried couples living together and gay couples to be equal with God-ordained heterosexual married couples, we will cease to be a moral society. If gays get equal rights, they will not stop until they dominate the moral thinking of our society."Tim Vandenack is a reporter at the Elkhart Truth newspaper in Elkhart, Ind., www.etruth.com.
