GOSHEN — The Elkhart County Election Board meets Thursday, May 15, to review the provisional ballots cast in last week’s primary election.
Thirty-nine provisional ballots were cast, according to Elkhart County Clerk Wendy Hudson, and the board will start efforts to determine if they should be counted in the formal vote totals. The meeting starts at 1:30 p.m. Thursday and will be at the Elkhart County Administration Building, room 108, 117 N. Second St., Goshen.
Voters cast provisional ballots if they don’t have proper identification to show on Election Day, if their signature is challenged or if there are questions over their voter registration status, among other things, according to Hudson. Those who cast provisional ballots due to lack of proper identification have until noon Friday to produce ID, so the review process doesn’t formally end until after that.
Once the review is complete, the board will certify results from the May 6 voting. Hudson, Democrat Arvis Dawson and Republican Wayne Kramer serve on the board.
