U.S. Rep. Walorski renews call for accountability in cases involving U.S. veterans
U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski reiterated her call for more accountability in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in a press conference with House Speaker John Boehner.
She addressed the matter in the weekly Republican address last Saturday, March 29, touting House Resolution 4031, which allows for removal of top VA officials for performance-related issues. GOP leaders, including Walorski and Boehner, took the issue up again at a press conference Thursday, April 3, in Washington, D.C., renewing the call for action.
Part of the problem, Walorski said, is with the backlog of claims by VA patients.
“Millions of America’s veterans depend on the VA for care and support, and there is no excuse for delayed benefits to those men and women who have so bravely fought for our country,” Walorski said in a statement. “By providing authority to the VA secretary to eliminate ineffective management and burdensome staff, we can begin to restore the faith in the VA for our nation’s courageous men and women.”
Walorski sponsored H.R. 4031 in the U.S. House.
