NOVI, Mich. (AP) — Michigan Lt. Gov. Brian Calley has been re-nominated as Gov. Rick Snyder’s running mate.

Republican delegates overwhelmingly chose Calley over tea party challenger Wes Nakagiri at Saturday’s GOP state convention in the Detroit suburb of Novi. The Brighton-area automotive engineering manager criticizes Snyder’s support for Medicaid expansion, Common Core education standards and a tax hike to improve roads.

Calley says he’s a proven conservative voice within Snyder’s administration even if he and the governor don’t always agree. Snyder told thousands of activists that Calley is the “best partner” and the best lieutenant governor in the country.

Snyder will face Democrat Mark Schauer in the November election. Schauer’s running mate is Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown. She’s expected to be formally nominated Sunday at the Democrats’ convention in Lansing.
