A Michigan Marine who died in combat two years ago has been awarded the Silver Star Medal, according to The Elkhart Truth’s reporting partners, WNDU.

Gunnery Sgt. Daniel J. Price, 27, of Holland, Mich., was killed July 29, 2012, during a morning patrol in Badghis province, Military Times reported.

Price was posthumously awarded the Silver Star Medal earlier this week by the U.S. Military for supporting Afghan commandos who were trying to take a village from insurgents, WOOD-TV reported.

Price climbed a wall and threw a grenade down a chimney, killing the attackers, WNDU reported.

The Silver Star Medal is the third highest award given by the U.S. Military for valor in enemy action.
