Authorities: Man dies while working on sailboat

Authorities: Man, 77, dies following fall while working on mast of sailboat near Bay City

BANGOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a 77-year old man who fell while working on the mast of a sailboat near Bay City has died.

WSGW-AM reports Gaitis (GIGH‘-tis) “Guy” Skabardis (SKAH‘-bar-dis) was working on the boat on Saturday afternoon when he fell about 50 feet.

The fall happened at the Bay City Yacht Club near the mouth of the Saginaw River in Bay County’s Bangor Township, north of Bay City.

An autopsy on Monday is expected to determine whether he had a medical problem before falling or died of injuries from the fall.
