A female body was pulled out of Lake Charles near Porter on Sunday, and while police have not officially identified the body, the family of a missing medical student from Kalamazoo, Mich., says it may be their daughter.

A man fishing on Lake Charles noticed something floating in the water around 7:10 a.m. and called the police, according to a press release from the Indiana State Police. The ISP SCUBA team and Porter Fire and Rescue pulled the body out of the water Sunday morning.

Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris told WOOD-TV that fingerprints or dental records will have to be used to positively identify the body and an autopsy is scheduled for early this week.

The family of Teleka Patrick, a 30-year-old Kalamazoo woman who went missing on Dec. 5, 2013, said it may be their daughter.

"Our family was informed that a body was found that may be our daughter Teleka Patrick," they said in a statement to WOOD-TV. "We are waiting for official confirmation from the Kalamazoo Sheriff’s Department and have no comment at this time. Thank you for your continued prayers-we ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time.”

Patrick was last scene leaving Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. Her car was found the next day off of I-94 near Portage.

In January, police searched Lake Charles when it was frozen over and found nothing. Other searches near where her car was found were fruitless.
