FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — A Fort Wayne man who crashed his car into another car in a suicide attempt has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the crash that left another motorist permanently disabled.
Thirty-two-year-old Jeremiah Therkelsen had pleaded guilty to aggravated battery in the February crash. He did not speak at Friday’s hearing where an Allen County judge sentenced him.
The Journal Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1l3rHFF ) Therkelsen told investigators he had an argument with his wife and tried to kill himself by crashing her vehicle into another car on Feb. 7.
The other car’s driver, Lamonta Green, suffered a broken back and a serious head injury.
Allen County Deputy Prosecutor Adam Mildred told the court that Green is now paralyzed from the waist down and his life is changed forever.
