NEW HAVEN, Ind. (AP) — Police say a Fort Wayne man died when he crashed a van while his wife and stepdaughter were fleeing from him in another vehicle.

Allen County sheriff’s Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel says 54-year old George Collins was pronounced dead soon after the crash Sunday night at an intersection near Interstate 469 just outside New Haven.

The Allen County coroner’s office says Collins wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the van after it rolled on its side.

Tinkel says a domestic dispute escalated into the chase during which the woman called police. Dispatchers were talking with her daughter in an attempt to get them to slow down or to head to a police station.

Tinkel says the woman isn’t expected to face charges.
