Police say man killed after bat attack on woman

Police say 47-year-old man killed at Indianapolis home as bat attack escalates to gunfire

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Police say a man was fatally shot when he returned to an Indianapolis house following a fight and began beating his girlfriend’s mother with a baseball bat.

Police say 47-year-old Wendell Vanbuskirk was killed about 12:15 a.m. Monday and two other people wounded during an exchange of gunfire outside the house on the city’s southwest side.

Officers say 52-year-old Quincy Franklin fatally shot Vanbuskirk when Vanbuskirk returned after being told to leave the house and began the bat attack.

Police say Franklin’s 47-year-old wife, Lisa Farley, was shot in the face during an exchange of gunfire between Franklin and two men who were with Vanbuskirk. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition. A 34-year-old man also wounded was hospitalized in stable condition.

No arrests were immediately made.
