GREENFIELD, Ind. (AP) — A central Indiana woman is avoiding prison after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of cocaine when she caused a crash that killed her husband.
A Hancock County judge on Tuesday ordered that 30-year-old Rebecca Garner of Greenfield serve four years on work release or home detention, followed by four years of probation.
The Daily Reporter reports (http://bit.ly/1m7bVci ) Garner told investigators after the August 2013 crash near Fortville that she had used cocaine within the previous days, and tests found high-enough cocaine levels for her to be considered impaired. Authorities say she drove through a stop sign into the path of a pickup truck.
The father of Chad Garner asked the judge for leniency on behalf of his former daughter-in-law.
