FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — It really is colder than it has been in a long time for mid-April across Indiana.

After a long, cold winter, much of the state is seeing below freezing temperatures Wednesday for the second straight morning.

The National Weather Service says Fort Wayne saw a record low of 23 degrees, breaking the previous mark of 24 degrees for April 16 that was set in 1935. The Wednesday low temperatures weren’t quite records, but still chilly, at 27 degrees in South Bend, 26 in Indianapolis and 32 in Evansville.

The weather service says South Bend tied a record Tuesday for the date’s lowest high temperature of 35 degrees, while Fort Wayne set broke the city’s record by only reaching 36.

The forecast looks better, with highs in the 60s expected Thursday.
