South Bend baby dead from injuries in alleged child abuse case

An 11-month-old boy, who was hospitalized in “extremely critical” condition over the weekend, died Monday. His mother was arrested Sunday on several charges.

SOUTH BEND — An 11-month-old boy died Monday night, Sept. 1, from injuries after being hospitalized in “extremely critical” condition over the weekend in South Bend, according to a report from the Elkhart Truth’s reporting partner, WNDU

Emergency responders were called to the home in the 100 block of North Sadie Street around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, according to WNDU. The child was reported as unresponsive. 

Micah Richardson was reported in “extremely critical” condition Sunday evening, Aug. 31, police told WSBT.

The boy’s mother, Nyesha Crocket, was arrested Sunday. She faces four felonies: one count of battery, one count of aggravated battery, one count of murder and one count of neglect of a dependent, WNDU reports

Crockett had sent text messages to the father before the child was found, according to WNDU reporter Shaun Gallagher

She is being held without bond in the St. Joseph County Jail, ABC57 reports.
