Memorial Hospital will become the second hospital in the state to create its own police force.

Eight Memorial Hospital Police officers will be sworn in at a ceremony Thursday afternoon, Aug. 28, according to a report from the South Bend Tribune.

The officers patrol the Memorial Hospital and Memorial Epworth Hospital campuses, grounds and parking garages as part of the hospital’s existing security team, the Tribune reports. And though Elkhart General Hospital and Memorial Hospital are both part of Beacon Health System, there is no indication that the officers will patrol EGH.

IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie was the first Indiana hospital to form its own police department, swearing in 40 officers in April, according to a report from The Star Press.
