Police have identified the two victims of a Sunday morning hit-and-run moped crash in South Bend.

Quentin L. Freeman, 53, was driving a moped southbound in the 1700 block of South Franklin Street around 12:21 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, when the moped was struck from behind by a pickup truck, according to a South Bend Police Department news release.

The pickup truck continued to drive southbound, dragging Freeman and the moped for several blocks.

Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Freeman’s passenger, 56-year-old Adrianne L. Gentry, was ejected from the moped on impact and was treated at Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are still searching for the pickup truck, described as an older model “square body style” two-tone Ford F-150 which may have been altered from the manufactured height.

Anyone with information about the crash or the pickup truck is asked to call Lt. Eugene Eyster at (574) 235-9818 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 342-STOP.
