Elkhart police investigating two shootings, one stabbing from weekend

    Three people were injured in two separate shootings and a stabbing in Elkhart on Friday and Saturday.

    The Elkhart Police Department is investigating two shootings and a stabbing that happened over the weekend.

    Dangelo Gills, 23, was shot in the 1700 block of 11th Street around 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, according to a police news release.

    Gills was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and his “cooperation wavered” with investigators, police say.

    Police also found evidence from the shooting in the 900 block of West Indiana Avenue and believe the shooting was related to an argument in the area.

    Another shooting was reported in the 200 block of West Indiana Avenue at 3:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23.

    Lavell Evans, 28, was shot in the left leg near the intersection of West Indiana and Benham avenues, according to police.

    Police also found damage to a house in the area consistent with gunfire.

    Anthony Spann, 52, was taken to Elkhart General Hospital around 11 p.m. Saturday for treatment after he was stabbed in his home in the 700 block of East Bristol Street during an argument.

    Spann is cooperating with investigators and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Det. Carl Conway at (574) 295-7076.
