South Bend police are looking for a pickup truck involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the 1700 block of South Franklin Street around 12:21 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, for a report of a crash, according to a South Bend Police Department news release.

Investigators determined a moped was traveling southbound on Franklin when it was struck from behind by a southbound pickup truck, possibly a red Ford F-150.

A passenger on the moped was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to Memorial Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The pickup fled the scene, dragging the moped and moped driver for several blocks. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are withholding the victim’s name pending notification of family members.

Anyone with information about the crash or the pickup truck is asked to contact Lt. Eugene Eyster at (574) 235-9818.
