Police say a Mishawaka teen killed in a crash early Monday was ejected from his vehicle even though he was wearing a seatbelt.

Anthony Ryor, 17, was driving home from a movie with two other teens around 12:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, when he lost control of his vehicle, which went off the road north of the Capital Avenue bridge and flipped several times, according to reports from the Elkhart Truth’s news partner, WNDU.

Ryor suffered massive internal injuries and was taken to Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police ordered toxicology tests but do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, WNDU reports.

Ryor was set to begin his senior year at Mishawaka High School on Tuesday, Aug. 19.

Counselors will be on hand on the first day of classes to support students grieving the loss of their classmate, the school’s principal told WNDU.
