Police are investigating a set of skeletal human remains found at a Steuben County lake.
A resident found the remains near the shoreline of Hamilton Lake around 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Scuba divers from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, Steuben County Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team and Indiana Conservation Officers conducted an underwater search of the area on Sunday, Aug. 17, and found more possible human skeletal remains.
The initial investigation indicated that the remains may be “archaeological in nature,” according to the news release.
Forensic experts in Indianapolis will test the remains to determine their age on Monday.
