Excise police arrest 71 in Muncie before start of Ball State classes

Indiana State Excise Police arrested 71 people in Muncie this weekend just before the start of classes at Ball State University.

Indiana State Excise Police arrested 71 people in Muncie this weekend just before the start of classes at Ball State University.

Police arrested 47 people on Friday, Aug. 15, on charges including illegal possession of alcohol, false statement of age and resisting law enforcement, according to a state excise police news release.

Four of those arrested Friday face charges of furnishing alcohol to minors.

Another 24 people were arrested Saturday, Aug. 16, on charges including resisting law enforcement, illegal possession of alcohol, furnishing alcohol to a minor, possession of false ID, misuse of license, minor in tavern, false informing and false statement of age.

Several people were also ticketed for open container violations on Friday and Saturday, according to the news release.

Fall semester classes begin Monday, Aug. 18, at Ball State University.
